Poker: Variations and How to Play
Poker is wildly exciting and variations have been added through time, to either make the poker game more exciting or to make it simpler or harder to understand and play.
Here we take a quick look at the list of poker games and how to play them.
- Texas Hold’em
As the most fashionable variant of poker in America and being the one that is played in the World Series of Poker, Texas Hold-em is the first to get a handle on. Players are dealt two cards and five table cards are also dealt, separated by four rounds of betting.
The Omaha variation is different to Texas Hold’em due to the fact that the players are first dealt four cards each. At the same time five community cards are dealt and are immediately shown. The players need to make a hand consisting of two of the cards in their hand and three of the available cards on the table.
- Five Card Draw
In Five Card Draw players are dealt five cards each and the player must choose three of these to trade in / swap, in the first round of betting.
- Seven Card Stud
In Seven Card Stud all players get dealt seven cards with four of these face up and three of these face down. As with all of the poker variations, the player chooses the best five cards to make up their final hand.
Remember, the thrill is in betting, but don’t get carried away. If you bet online then set yourself a game purse that you can afford to lose, and do not top it up if your luck runs out. You can always add more funds after payday and play free poker in the meantime.
